Sloppy Joe Quesadillas

A recipe from one of my favorite blogs – follow the links and visit the original site this recipe came from!

Sloppy Joe Quesadillas combine tons of flavor into an easy to eat quesadilla. Enjoy all the flavors of a sloppy joe in this quick and easy recipe.

What are Sloppy Joe Quesadillas?

It is one of our favorite dinner ideas and so easy. Traditional sloppy joe filling is stuffed into a tortilla instead of a bun. Then everything is cooked in a skillet or griddle for a tasty recipe.

Slice into wedges and serve for a great meal. It does not disappoint and tastes perfectly every time. From kids to adults, this recipe is a winner with everyone.

Ingredients:

Ground Beef

Onion (diced)

Minced Garlic

Ketchup

Brown Sugar

Yellow Mustard

4 Burrito Size Flour Tortillas (10 inch tortillas)

Cheddar Cheese (shredded)

Monterey Jack Cheese (shredded)

How to make sloppy joe quesadillas:

Step 1. Cook the ground beef and onions. Brown the ground beef with diced onions in a large skillet over medium high heat until no longer pink and browned.  Drain off the excess grease and return the beef to the skillet.

Step 2. Flavor the meat with garlic. Stir in the minced garlic and heat for 1 minute until the garlic is aromatic.

Step 3. Combine the sauce ingredients. In a small bowl, stir together the ketchup, brown sugar and mustard.

Step 4. Pour the sauce into the beef and onion mixture. Then stir this mixture into ground beef.  Stir well to combine all the ingredients.  Heat over medium high heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 5. Heat the pan over medium heat. Heat a separate skillet over medium high heat.  Place a tortilla in the skillet.

Step 6. Top with beef and cheese. Add the beef mixture to half the tortilla and top with ¼ cup of each of the shredded cheeses.  Salt and pepper to taste.

Step 7. Fold the tortilla in half.  Cook until the bottom of the quesadilla is golden brown (2-3 minutes).

Step 8. Cook until the cheese is melted. Flip and cook until the opposite side is also golden brown (2-3 more minutes) and the cheese is melted.

Step 9. Remove and continue to cook the remaining quesadillas. Remove from the skillet to a separate plate.  Follow the same process with the remaining ingredients to form 3 more quesadillas.

Step 10. Slice and enjoy this Sloppy Joe Quesadilla recipe. Slice each quesadilla into 4 pieces.  Serve warm and enjoy!

How to store leftovers

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4-5 days.  When ready to enjoy, reheat in the oven until warmed through and crispy. You can also warm in the microwave, but it will not have the same crispy texture.

What to serve with sloppy joes quesadillas?

Corn on the Cob

Broccoli Salad

Creamy cucumber tomato salad

We like to keep it simple and serve easy sides to go with this meal. It is such a great recipe that pairs well with many different dishes. These are just a few of our favorites to enjoy.

Recipe tips

Leftover ground beef. Turn any leftovers into this tasty Sloppy Joes Quesadilla recipe. It’s an easy way to repurpose leftovers without much work.

Watch closely while cooking. These quesadillas do not take long to cook. The cheese only needs to melt and the tortillas crisp.

Don’t overfill the tortillas. You want each one to be full but not so full it spills out.

Variations

Cheese. You can switch out the cheese for another variety. Mozzarella, Colby and Pepper Jack make great options as well.

Ground Turkey. Substitute the ground beef for ground turkey. You can even combine both together. No one will notice.

Smaller tortillas. Children or those with smaller appetites can use smaller size tortillas to make these quesdallas. It would also be a fun party food and you can make a smaller size.

Canned Sloppy Joe Mixture. We love the homemade version but you can pick up store bought if desired to make this.

Add Spicy flavor. Sometimes, I add red pepper flakes for extra heat. You can always separate the mixture if needed to make some without.

Go ahead and make this wonderful dinner idea this week. It is quick, easy and most definitely a keeper! Our entire family loves it and it is kid approved.
